How It Works
In the 30+ years I’ve helped families deal with addiction, I’ve seen the same thing over and over:
when you love someone with addiction, walking on eggshells is exhausting and scary as hell; every conversation can blow up. I’ve been there.
You’re trying what you’ve been told: “Tough love, don’t enable, rock bottom,” but that’s not working. They stopped communicating, which left you feeling disconnected, with more anxiety and confusion.
You need a compassionate strategy with actionable steps to build connection, rather than rules that feel more like punishment than support.
My guidance allows you to make progress sooner by understanding questions like, when does support become enabling?
The core of what I can do for you is to teach you how to solve problems caused by your loved one’s substance use.
My 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐠𝐠𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬™ program will teach you to set compassionate yet firm boundaries that protect recovery while building connection.
Connection increases when you practice specific communication skills, like PIUS, to express your concerns in ways that land with your loved one.
You’ll learn to use tools from evidence-based approaches like CRAFT, plus my lived experience, that have helped countless families like yours gain health and recovery.
Many clients tell me they hesitated to use my services at first because they’d already spent time, money, and hope on strategies that didn’t work. But waiting is not an option, as addiction continues to damage your loved ones. Rather than a cost, clients see my fee as an investment in the desired outcome: their family’s stability and recovery.

“When my spouse developed a serious alcohol problem in his 40s, our lives changed to a constant sense of helplessness: feeling like there was nothing I could do. Through Patrick’s Step Off The Eggshells program, I learned to respond instead of react, communicate more effectively, and take care of myself without controlling or enabling. Things are calmer and I feel more confident and hopeful.” – Spouse P.M.L. of person in recovery, Boston, MA
“I wholeheartedly recommend Patrick for his exceptional work. He has been a blessing to our family, helping us immensely in understanding, navigating, and supporting an addicted family member who has struggled for many years.”
“Patrick’s support, kindness, and expert guidance were a turning point for me during a challenging time in many different parts of my life. Thank you for everything and helping us share my and my daughter’s journey with you as our guide. I will be forever grateful!”
“When my family was in crisis, I felt lost and scared. Patrick helped us find expert help quickly. His support and guidance gave us hope and confidence and helped us start our recovery journey. I’m so grateful for Patrick’s help.”
“I used to be the ‘bad guy,’ struggling to curb my son’s drinking. Thanks to Patrick, I’ve reclaimed my role as a ‘supportive mom’. He showed me a path that fosters growth and positivity. I’m no longer the enforcer. As a result, my son changed his mind and he has stopped drinking! Patrick’s support and insight made all the difference.”
“My son was struggling with addiction and we were at our wit’s end. We tried the best rehabs, Al-Anon, but nothing seemed to work. Then we found Patrick Doyle, who was different; he even guided us 24/7 when our son went missing. Patrick taught us communication skills that helped us build compassion and understanding with our son. As a result our son has turned his life around and we are so grateful. I highly recommend Patrick’s Coaching.”
