Addiction treatment programs need to start providing culture-informed care to Black American addiction patients. This means giving patients tools for coping with the traumatic daily impact of racism, to provide healthy alternatives to substance use. Black American patients with addiction need trauma and dual diagnosis care specific to their experience of racism. If any treatment programs are offering this, I’m not aware of them.
Even with the significant impact of Covid19 on families with addiction, Recovery is still possible; and Family Coaching improves outcomes.
